North 2nd Street will be closed for construction from Parish Avenue to Greeley Avenue starting June 5. There will be limited vehicular access, as the street will be closed 24-7 until the improvement project reaches completion.
The first phase of the project, which began May 8, spans from Parish Avenue, west to Canal Street, and is expected to be completed October 31. The remainder of the project that resumes at Canal Street following Roosevelt High School graduation ceremonies, ending at Greeley Avenue, is expected to be completed August 11.
The Town hired Concrete Express, Inc. as General Contractor to oversee this major improvement project. The project will cost approximately $1.3 million, and will include replacement of a major water main, removal and replacement of concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter, and replacement of the asphalt roadway, plus striping. Xcel Energy will relocate street lights to accommodate sidewalk improvements.
Recognizing the need for improved traffic and pedestrian safety, Town Council designated this project as a goal for 2016 to discuss the design and receive comments. The patience of Johnstown residents during this process is greatly appreciated. To view the flyer with traffic control plans, go to the link provided below.
