The Johnstown Police Department is Hiring – Property and Evidence Technician

A Property and Evidence Technician receives, catalogs, and stores property and evidence, assists police officers and detectives with investigative requests, answers public inquiries, collects, copies, and maintains electronic evidence files, collects electronic (LiveScan) and ink fingerprints, transports evidence to laboratories and court, enters and edits property and evidence into a computer database, and performs destruction of property and evidence in accordance with policies and procedures. In addition, the Property and Evidence Technician is assigned responsibility for ordering and maintaining equipment, technology, and occasionally serve in our front office covering front office staff for breaks and meetings. 

This position will record, secure/collect, and properly dispose of property and evidence as established under law, policy and procedure, and municipal ordinance. In addition, this position will also respond to crime scenes under the direction of a Sergeant or Detectives to assist with investigations. Additional responsibilities include recording and documenting the chain of custody of all property and evidence to aid in the collection of evidence, and to assist in the procurement of crime lab supplies and inventory.
