Johnstown, CO - March 17, 2020 -- At Monday night’s Town Council Meeting, the Town of Johnstown adopted a Resolution Declaring a Disaster Emergency for the Town. This resolution will allow the Town to respond more quickly and appropriately to the COVID-19 emergency disasters.
This declaration of an emergency disaster by the Town comes 7 days after Colorado Gov. Jared Polis declared a state of emergency in response to COVID-19 (coronavirus). The Town recently announced a closure of its facilities to the public in an effort to prioritize the safety, health, and wellbeing of its residents and staff.
The declaration adds to the measures being taken by the Town to mitigate the spread of coronavirus and take care of the community. Resolution 2020-07, declaring a local disaster emergency, provides the town manager with tools necessary to protect the public health and safety. Two examples of this are being able to hold public meetings remotely through a video/teleconferencing service and having access to additional provisions for the Town.
A noteworthy function of this declaration is that it makes the Town eligible for public assistance through the state or, if applicable, FEMA may reimburse the costs incurred due to this response.
